Eco-Ethonomics Inc. has been engaged by Toronto Neighbourhood Centres, in collaboration with Social Enterprise Toronto and the Toronto Drop-in Network, to look at “enabling the growth and development of social enterprise through public policy” at the Provincial and Municipal level.  The project includes conducting a thorough stakeholder consultation process with at least 35 key informant interviews.   The non-profit sector is emerging as a strong force, becoming more entrepreneurial and effectively mixing economic interest with community benefit.  The report will seek to improve the conditions for those non-profit social enterprises to succeed in becoming viable and in providing livelihoods for those experiencing barriers to social and economic inclusion. The aim is to make specific, substantial and innovative policy recommendations that will help build a booming social economy across Ontario; one where the social sector leads the way forward and those across traditional sector and service domains align and provide facets of a supportive social enterprise eco-system.
